I told ya music was cool

Wearing: Yellow tank top and denim shorts. And I was wearing my Spongebob sandals but I took them off. So many people commented on them. During the fire drill we had, these girls I don't even know asked me where I got them!

Today nothing exciting happened in the world of Lindsay. Except for in band. Today we played a new piece that we might play next year. It's called The Planets and this version had 3 movements. They were called Mars: Bringer of War, Venus: Bringer of Peace and Jupiter: Bringer of Jollity. I didn't even know jollity was a word. I think it sounds funny-haha. So far we've only played the first movement. It's hard because instead of being in the usual 4/4 time signature, or even in 2/4 oe 3/4, it's in 5/4. That probably doesn't make any sense to you non-musical people out there, but believe, it makes a big difference when you are counting it. Some of that movement is in 2/4 and 3/4, but the majority is in 5/4. It's still a really cool sounding piece. That movement is so mysterious and war-like, which I guess it's good since it's supposed to be about Romans going into war or something. Mr Keleher gave us a whole mini-history lesson on what it's supposed to be about. And who ever said music doesn't teach you anything?

Let me elaborate...Music teaches you Math because you must be able to sub-divide measures and notes and the like. This can get very complicated when the song has a lot of syncopation. Music also teaches you history, because sometimes you learn about the origins of songs, which were often written during important times in history. Music teaches you foreign languages because most of the directions (i.e. forte and pianissimo) are written in Italian and sometimes French. Music is also a sport in a way. You must have agile fingers in order to play the more technically complicated pieces and have to be able to hold you breath for long periods at a time. And if you are in marching band, you have to learn how to walk and do different formations while playing your instrument. Music also teaches you people skills because it helps you to learn that although you may not like a few (most) of the people in your band, you have to deal with them anyway because that's just the way life is. I know about that last one from experience. Believe me. Ok, that was probably kind of boring, but I just want people to realize that music is not just playing notes, you have to be able to do a lot of stuff to play those notes. And may I also point out that one of the trumpet players in East (Josh Rissmiller) got a perfect score on his SATs and is going to Harvard, and another one (Andres Cotto) is going to the University of the Arts. I'm sure there are many other people going to Ivy League colleges and such. I'm done with that rant now.

I've been realizing since I've been wearing shorts now that it's hot that I have really big upper legs. When I sit down they like bulge out and get big. I know everyone is always telling me I'm so skinny, but believe me, that part of me isn't. I don't know why they are so big though. I guess I'll just have to live with it.

Speaking of my legs, my knees have really been hurting me lately. They started hurting on Tuesday during gym. They hurt for alittle while that afternoon and then it kind of went away. I noticed it the next day when I leaned on my knees and it hurt me. And then it started to hurt at gym again. And it didn't help that when I was running to first base I ran into Scott's knee with mine as I was trying to touch the base. I was out too. Then it hurt more. Today it kind of went away again until gym. And now it hurts when I bend them. Maybe I should see a doctor about this. I'll see if it still hurts tomorrow. Maybe I have shin splints. I know Ilana had them. I don't really know what it is but maybe I have them anyway. Or maybe it has something to do with the fact that whenever I bend my knees to bend down, the crack really loudly. But they've been doing that forever and nothing's happened yet. Hmmmmm...

Ok, I gotta go take a shower now cuz I have to shave tonight too. I wonder why Melissa didn't call. I know she had piano but she usually calls afterwards. I guess she's working on her room with her dad again. Oh well.

"I think back/When you were around/And we were together/We didn't care about the weather/Cuz baby we were together/Now that you're gone/I have to say/The rain's falling down each and every day/Outta my eyes/And I'm a-wonderin' why"-Isaac's first song. Did you know he wrote that when he was 8-years-old and in 3rd grade!? When I was in 3rd grade I was like, I don't know, doing stuff that did not consist of writing songs with metaphorical significance. They're all musical geniuses, I'm telling you. You gotta believe me on this one! And they're all super-smart too. You know why? Cuz they're musicians! Ha!
